Good morning, Twin Falls. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 17th of July.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Senators Jim Risch, Mike Crapo, and Eric Schmitt introduced the Graham Hoffman Act—legislation that will make assaulting first responders a federal crime and increase penalties after a June 29 ambush that killed two firefighters and injured another. The bill honors first responder Graham Hoffman, who was killed on duty earlier this year, and follows recent violent attacks on those who serve our communities.  Local News 8

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Working Idahoans are finding it hard to buy homes as building rules add extra costs (30% for apartments and 25% for houses) and high interest rates have increased monthly mortgage payments by $1,000 compared to four years ago; plans to open up federal land for new housing (which might lower costs) have stalled.  KEZJ
