- ➤ Wildlife biologist Eric VanBeek said that as winter ends and spring starts, residents should treat every bear as if it has cubs and secure their garbage and bird feeders to limit food sources. He advises calling fish and game if a bear is seen and keeping dogs leashed while hiking to prevent dangerous encounters. KMVT
