COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This weekend, Magic Valley hosts a continued CSI men’s basketball tournament on Friday and Saturday, a Harvest Time Festival at the CSI Expo Center from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and a Keys For Homes concert at the Orpheum Theatre today at 7 p.m.—on Saturday, the Twin Falls Public Library shows a free movie at 3 p.m. while Canyon Crest holds an Idaho Liquor Tasting from 4 to 7:30 p.m. and Brickhouse features live pro wrestling at 6:30 p.m., with some festival access extending into Sunday.  KEZJ
  • The Twin Falls Animal Shelter ran a donation drive all week to collect essential supplies for animals and families in need, and a special collection drive took place Thursday at Fred Meyer from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can still donate at the shelter through Saturday + Two Men and a Truck helped gather donations.  KEZJ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local cattle ranchers in Cassia County are preparing for winter by weaning calves and assessing cow nutrition—steps that will ensure their herds can survive the cold months. Rancher Paul Marchant said these preparations, including vaccinations and feeding plans, will affect ranching success through next spring.  KMVT
  • A Starbucks on Boise Ave switched its look on November 6 to a festive setup with red menus and snowflake decor when it launched its holiday drinks menu. Red Cup Day will be on November 13—when customers who order a handcrafted holiday drink can get a free reusable cup while the new Bearista Cold Cup sells for $29.95.  KEZJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • A study found that many people in Idaho say kefir wrong—its correct sound is kee-fer. The report also listed other words that are often mispronounced across America.  KEZJ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tonight, forecast maps show strong solar flare conditions that could let most of Idaho, all of Washington and part of Utah see the Aurora Borealis — viewers should seek dark areas away from city lights as the nearly full moon and clouds may reduce the display.  KEZJ
  • A southwest Idaho Fish & Game worker had a close encounter with a mountain lion (with two cubs feeding on a deer carcass) in Owyhee County while investigating a deer kill. She used her whistle to deter the cat and avoid harm (the incident was captured on video), officials said.  1310 KLIX

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Twin Falls can legally burn yard debris this fall with a free permit from the Fire Department if they follow safety rules—keeping fires small, having water on hand, and not igniting synthetic materials. Permits must be renewed yearly for regular burns.  KEZJ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Governor Brad Little announced that Idaho’s Department of Health and Welfare submitted the state’s application on Nov.4 for the Rural Health Transformation Program—designed to boost rural health care access—and Idaho expects to learn its funding amount on Dec.31.  KMVT
