COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Centennial Park is closed again for repairs and will remain shut until mid to late October as the parking lot and surrounding areas are upgraded. It briefly reopened for the 9/11 Memorial Event from September 11 to September 14, and visitors will need to wait for its full return.  1310 KLIX

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cactus Pete’s in Jackpot will host two pop-up buffets this fall—one on Sept. 26 with a Southern meal for meat lovers and another on Oct. 3 with surf and turf options featuring prime rib and crab legs.  1310 KLIX
  • Jerome 20/20 named Camille Barigar as its new executive director, and she will lead the organization in its efforts to retain, expand and recruit businesses—an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth and leveraging local business strengths.  Times-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The second annual Magic Valley Comic-Con was held at the Twin Falls County Fairgrounds in Filer this past weekend and brought many fans and celebrities together. Local residents met actors like Jason Lee and enjoyed panels with Mallrats cast and other guests — people dressed in Star Wars and Superman costumes to celebrate comics.  Times-News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In Idaho, gas prices went up even though Twin Falls saw a two-cent drop to $3.44 per gallon while Lewiston and Coeur d’Alene had higher rises. The state average is $3.51—five cents more than last week—and cheaper winter fuel may lower costs soon.  KMVT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting in October, Twin Falls food pantries will face higher demand as new SNAP restrictions—signed in July—impose stricter work requirements and lower funding. Local providers report that more seniors and families will need extra assistance as rising food prices strain household budgets.  KMVT
  • The Idaho Department of Water Resources is enforcing a July Order that requires all 743 water users—including those from Twin Falls Canal—to join an approved mitigation plan after a shortfall of 63,700 acre-feet was identified. So far 469 users have complied and staff will follow up with the remaining users to avoid future penalties.  Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Twin Falls boutique is holding a petition drive to improve medical care for pregnant women and girls in Idaho — the effort seeks to enhance local health services.  Times-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Blue Devils coach Acey Shaw passed away on Sunday night in Dietrich — he led the team for 16 years, winning four state championships and earning multiple coach awards. His funeral services will be held this Saturday at the Dietrich School with a viewing held at the local church, and community members remember him for his kindness and perseverance.  KMVT
