Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 14th of August.
Good morning, Twin Falls.
💼 Business
Twin Falls Sandwich Company marked 14 years in business since its opening on June 27, 2012 and has grown popular for its fresh, locally sourced offerings (owner Shane Cook said community support helped the shop expand from a three-person team to a local favorite).
🎭 Culture
Tom Wangeman is a local cabinet maker who once worked in counter-intelligence and helped rebuild an Iraqi police force, and he now joins weekly radio calls from his studio or while visiting family in the Cascades.
He also recreates John Dickinson’s life with historical reenactments for Twin Falls audiences.
🎓 Education
Arabella Kohtz, a local student, will represent Idaho as a senator at ALA Girls Nation, where student leaders gather at the national event.
🌲 Environment
Southern Idaho is facing a severe drought after a brief rain shower Thursday did little to change dry conditions.
Water managers warn that the ongoing water shortage (worse than past dry spells) could strain supplies if rain does not return soon.
🏛️ Government
The Urban Renewal Agency proposed leasing property at 251 Maxwell Ave. + 244 Railroad Ave. to build a storage unit facility near the train tracks as part of a downtown renewal plan that includes new parking and business growth; proposals for mixed-use projects are due by Aug.
