BUSINESS NEWS

CULTURE NEWS

Smaller events will continue through mid-month, offering parking and shade in towns like Kimberly + Arco for residents to reconnect.  KEZJ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On July 1, the federal government froze funds that were to be released to school districts across Idaho, causing a statewide budget shortfall. In Twin Falls, the school district now faces a $1.5 million gap that may force cuts in programs such as migrant support and English language aid—although existing staff will be reassigned to other positions.  KMVT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Department of Water Resources signed an order on Thursday showing Twin Falls Canal Co. may face a 75,300 acre-foot shortfall this year due to lower water flows from a warm, dry spring — junior groundwater users must join an approved mitigation plan by July 25 to avoid curtailment. Updated forecasts based on Snake River and aquifer conditions led to the revised injury estimates.  Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Twin Falls residents face rising heat safety concerns as temperatures hit triple digits and physicians at St. Luke’s recommend avoiding peak heat hours — they advise using light, loose-fitting shirts, wide-brimmed hats, and SPF 30 sunscreen, especially for children. More than 119,000 emergency room visits for heat-related illnesses in 2023 highlight the need for extra precautions during summer.  KMVT
