COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Eighty women pilots will fly through Jerome County today as part of the Air Race Classic, a cross-country race covering more than 2400 miles from Alabama to Washington—volunteers at the Jerome County Airport will offer snacks and help with refueling while the event runs until June 20.  KMVT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On June 15, Idaho State Police reported that a green 1995 Ford Ranger drove off Perrine Bridge from the northwest viewpoint on the Jerome side of the Snake River Canyon and struck multiple surfaces as it fell—its only occupant died as investigators work to notify the family.  1310 KLIX
  • A 63-year-old motorcyclist on a 2019 Harley Davidson struck a semi truck at mile marker 184 on I84 today when traffic slowed—he was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.  KEZJ
  • Today, at 9:30 a.m., Idaho State Police responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash on westbound I-84 near Twin Falls at milepost 175 in which a 50-year-old driver in a Volkswagen Jetta struck a Chevrolet Silverado carrying a 68-year-old driver and a 72-year-old passenger, causing the pickup driver to die and blocking lanes for three hours—emergency responders aided the scene and airlifted the unbelted Jetta driver to a local hospital.  Local News 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new charter school focused on trades broke ground Tuesday, June 17 in Twin Falls and is set to open next August for the 2026-27 school year with capacity for 488 students. Twin Falls School District Superintendent Brady Dickinson said the opening will force cuts of 20 teaching positions—an impact linked to the new academy’s student draw—while the school will work with local industries to encourage graduates to stay in the area.  Times-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Little signed a bill in April that will restrict SNAP users from buying soda with their benefits from January 1—even as some soda flavors are already being listed as discontinued from local shelves. This ban will last at least two years and may soon change what Idaho consumers find on store shelves.  KEZJ
