CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities charged 19-year-olds Daniel Wise and Andrew Snyder Thorstad in connection with a deadly shooting at a mobile home park in Kimberly that killed Chris Dequintanaroo last Thursday night—Wise faces a felony for unlawful firearm possession without posting a $1 million bond while Snyder, charged with destruction of evidence, posted a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 27.  KMVT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho drivers should know that the 'No Touch' law makes it illegal to hold a cellphone while driving, with fines of $75 for a first offense, $150 for a second, and $300 for a third—law enforcement may pull over anyone seen holding a phone even when stopped. Officials clarify that viral claims of a new law are false and that fines have been in place since fines began on January 1, 2021.  1310 KLIX
  • Twin Falls awarded $50,000 in grants to five local nonprofits, and Culture for Change received a $10,000 grant to train leaders and host sewing classes & support local skill development.  Times-News
  • The Idaho Supreme Court ordered Attorney General Raúl Labrador and the Idaho Division of Financial Management to revise the short ballot title and fiscal impact statement for the Reproductive Freedom & Privacy Act so that voters get clear, impartial information—this decision came after Idahoans United for Women and Families filed a lawsuit. The ruling affects the language used on the ballot as the state works to meet Idaho Code requirements.  Local News 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Boise VA Medical Center needs Twin Falls residents to volunteer as drivers after the service that once ran five days is now down to two drivers — the center requires five to seven more volunteers who must be 18 or older with a clean record to help veterans get to medical appointments.  KMVT
