- ➤ Western Days returns this weekend for its 44th year, with City Park streets closed for vendor setups ahead of a parade at 9 a.m. Saturday from Falls and Blue Lakes to Second Street. Sunday offers music, a car show, Butterfly Haven and Rock Creek Beer Garden (closures until May 31). KMVT
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire in Hansen burned over 90 acres on May 28 around 2:30 p.m. at the 3200 block of 4200 E. Road, and fire crews are using a controlled burn (to clear vegetation) while they investigate the cause. KMVT
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Idaho Milk Products opened its new ice cream and powder blending facility in Jerome with a ribbon cutting Thursday afternoon. The plant, designed for future expansion, includes three production lines and will add about 100 jobs (a boost to local agriculture). KMVT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lincoln County Youth Center received a $165,000 federal grant that will fund free after-school care, summer camps, transportation services, and preschool programs over the next five years for about 80 children from neighboring communities. KMVT
- ➤ Filer High School senior Keegan Claiborne won the state FFA meat judging contest last June + earned a scholarship to attend Clarendon College in Texas where he will study meat judging. KMVT
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, Twin Falls Canal Co. reduced water deliveries to a half-inch (a 33% cut from full rights) for local water users. Officials have not yet provided details on how this change will affect irrigation schedules. Times-News
- ➤ Researchers from the Mid-Snake Resource, Conservation and Development District are releasing sterile codling moths weekly this summer across several Twin Falls County sites (Kimberly, Twin Falls, Filer, and Buhl) to cut crop pest numbers. The study could lead to using fewer pesticides and lowering costs for growers. KMVT
