COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Memorial Day weekend in Magic Valley will offer many events where residents can enjoy a comedy night at Lamphouse Theater Friday at 7:30 p.m., a BASE jump event from the Perrine Bridge Saturday starting at 6:30 a.m., and a Color Run in Buhl at 9 a.m. Other events include a card show in Filer from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., bridal and movie matinees at local venues, and trivia and late-night comedy programs—providing a full weekend of fun and community gatherings.  1310 KLIX

BUSINESS NEWS

  • JCPenney in Chubbuck will permanently close its store at Pine Ridge Mall on May 25 as part of a plan to shut down seven locations this year. Mall owners are planning to redevelop the center into an open-air space — a move that may have influenced the decision.  KEZJ
  • Les Schwab will open a 10,500-square-foot store in Kimberly at 3803 N 3500 E on June 4 with a grand opening celebration scheduled for June 20 — the new site will offer seven interior bays to service vehicles, farm equipment and trucks while creating job opportunities nearby. This expansion marks the tenth Magic Valley location designed to provide closer services for local residents.  1310 KLIX

CRIME NEWS

  • A Twin Falls man aged 61 faces felony charges of video voyeurism and sexual exploitation of a minor after he admitted installing a hidden camera in his home that captured images of a teenage girl changing in his wife’s sewing room—his bond is set at $150,000 and he is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 30.  KMVT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Idaho named forage researcher Acharya to the Kimberly Extension Center where he will work on a research dairy under construction near Rupert—he grew up on a farm in Nepal and brings firsthand farming experience to the project.  Times-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Secretary of State Phil McGrane is reviewing a possible campaign finance violation in the Filer school bond election — state and county officials are investigating the issue.  Times-News
  • During Tuesday's off-year election, Magic Valley voters approved four levies while rejecting a $52 million bond in Filer and a supplemental levy in Valley School District—delivering bad news for district leaders and for the Gooding County Ambulance District override. Voter turnout was about 10% statewide and 30.3% in Twin Falls County.  Times-News
