COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers from Magic Valley 9/11 Memorial spent Monday evening cleaning and reinforcing the Patriot flag (150 feet long and weighing 400 pounds) for its upcoming display over Snake River Canyon during America250 from June 26 to July 11.  KMVT
  • A memorial service in Magic Valley paid tribute to the 76 Idaho law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, including nine local officers, as community members gathered to honor their service & sacrifice.  Times-News
  • Due to financial strain, Twin Falls Senior Center is reducing meal services; officials remain optimistic that meals will be restored (no set date has been given).  Times-News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A hiker was rescued and is recovering after an avalanche near Mount Borah on Sunday, May 10 — emergency teams airlifted the injured person using a Talon 96 helicopter as the Custer County Sheriff's Office reminded backcountry travelers to be prepared.  Local News 8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Two new vendors are preparing to open at 2nd South Market with Cutthroat Coffee offering a range of beverages and Old Town Deli serving New York-style fare. The vendors will open by June 1 with live music planned for Memorial Day weekend.  KMVT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Idaho’s average gas price reached $4.55 per gallon on Monday, up 10+ cents from last week, while AAA projects 268,000 Idahoans will join 45 million Americans traveling 50 miles or more for Memorial Day.  KMVT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After Monday evening’s closure at exit 211 for bridge work, crews are intermittently closing I84 ramps and repaving SH24 today - affecting Centennial Drive, Hwy 30 and SH25 until Friday, May 15.  KEZJ
  • Interstate 84 will see intermittent closures from Monday at 6 p.m. through Friday, May 15 as crews work on a new bridge at exit 211, affecting SH24, Centennial Drive, Highway 30, and SH25; drivers are advised to use alternate routes.  1310 KLIX
  • Government agencies will begin identifying and releasing files on unidentified aerial phenomena following a recent directive, and Idaho—known for its high per capita UFO sightings—watches as ongoing efforts promise new details soon.  1310 KLIX
