BUSINESS NEWS

  • McDonald’s updated its menu in Idaho, Washington and Utah by adding McCrispy Strips with options for three or four pieces and a new Chili Crispy Sauce—customers now have a new permanent choice to try instead of their regular order. The chain also expanded its lemonade offering nationwide last month to rival other fast food outlets.  1310 KLIX

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Idaho’s Farm Bureau forecast shows a 5% drop in potato acreage from 315,000 to 300,000 acres this year—marking the smallest acreage since 1952 while total production is still expected to yield 13 to 14 billion pounds of potatoes. The decrease comes as major processors cut contracts, leading some farmers to consider alternative crops.  KMVT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The College of Southern Idaho hosted International Astronomy Day events on Saturday at the Herrett Center where families viewed Venus through a telescope and launched bottle rockets — the celebration ended with a star party that let residents see planets and learn about astronomy.  KMVT
  • Twin Falls teachers will receive a 5% raise next school year (one new teacher will earn $50,252), and the school district will cut 20 staff positions (due to declining enrollment).  Times-News

  • May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and the Idaho transportation department urges drivers and riders to pay close attention to prevent repeat crashes, as data from 2023 reported 609 motorcycle crashes and 39 fatalities. Rick Asson of Snake-Harley Davidson said proper safety gear & careful observation at intersections can help protect riders from injuries.  KMVT
