COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today the Twin Falls City Pool is open as temperatures rise and safety measures are in place to keep swimmers protected. Aquatic director John Pauley said the pool uses an entry alert system and requires parents to stay in the water with children under six—lifeguards must complete training and be at least 16 to work the shift.  KMVT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jana and Geoffrey Yockey of Garlic Gods grow up to 25,000 pounds of chemical-free garlic for home gardeners using fourteen different varieties—managing a cycle from winter planting to summer hand-harvesting. They moved from Florida to Idaho in 2018 to take over Jana’s father’s farm and now supply garlic that tastes much better than store-bought options.  KMVT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buhl School District is asking voters to approve a $650,000 levy in May to cover a 7% funding gap that led to cuts after a drop of about 50 students—without the levy, the district will lose six teacher positions and three to four staff roles, and it will hold an open house Thursday at 6 p.m. at the high school library to answer questions.  KMVT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Shoshone Falls opened after six months of construction on Thursday morning—tourists from across the country visited and were impressed by the falls.  Times-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Retiring Police Chief Craig Kingsbury ended his 35-year career at Twin Falls City Hall on April 24 when he said he would have done the job for free—he now plans to enjoy travel and time with family while the department adjusts to fewer officers.  Times-News
  • Starting Monday, April 28, 4100 N, a key road west of Twin Falls will be closed for several months for repairs due to damage from loose gravel and potholes. Drivers (including those commuting to Buhl and major stores) should use alternate routes via 4200 and Highway 30 until the work is finished.  1310 KLIX

HEALTH NEWS

  • Detective Blas Martinez recalled the early days of the fentanyl crisis while he took part in a panel discussion hosted by the City Club of Southern Idaho on April 22. Judge Blaine Cannon and other panelists shared drug court success stories and treatment approaches for addiction—providing hope for those facing fentanyl abuse.  Times-News

  • Jacey Cipriano will join Team USA as the youngest athlete at the Archery World Cup in Shanghai starting May 6. She learned archery at home & trained with coach Caleb Drake, & now she is set to inspire youth archers in Idaho.  KMVT
  • Southern Idaho native Colston Loveland from Gooding was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the NFL first round with the tenth overall pick and will start his professional career as a tight end after his standout season at Michigan—earning him Gatorade Player of the Year honors in Idaho.  1310 KLIX
