BUSINESS NEWS

  • Modern Sounds Vinyl and Music opened in Twin Falls about three weeks ago and offers 5,000 albums including both classic records and new hits — filling a gap as Twin Falls had not seen a privately owned record store in over 20 years — said manager Jody Jeske at the Main Avenue West location.  KMVT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the 94th annual FFA convention is underway at the College of Southern Idaho with more than 1,000 students learning about agriculture and testing their skills in competitions — the event will last until Saturday when new state FFA leaders are elected.  KMVT
  • Bickel Elementary will add a dual immersion program for next school year as Twin Falls School District expands instruction in English and Spanish—enrollment is underway with a May 7 deadline. The program will split language instruction evenly to help students gain balanced skills in both languages.  KMVT
  • Buhl High School senior Mason DuBois was accepted into Cal Tech thanks to his high test scores and work on the robotics team—he also received offers from Carnegie Mellon, Dartmouth, MIT, Princeton, Stanford and Yale. He plans to study physics and start his college career at the prestigious university.  KMVT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho’s Senate passed a bill that would let ivermectin be sold over the counter—Senate Bill 1211 passed on Thursday with a 25-9 vote and now moves to the House for approval; if it becomes law, it will take effect immediately under an emergency clause.  Times-News
  • Idaho lawmakers will debate a bill that would let ivermectin be sold over the counter for human use—making it available without a prescription despite its past controversy during the COVID-19 pandemic.  1310 KLIX
  • Idaho lawmakers are pushing a bill to let people buy ivermectin over the counter—currently the prescription drug treats parasitic worms and was once falsely promoted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lawmakers will debate the proposal soon before any changes are made.  KEZJ
  • The Idaho Transportation Department will close State Highway 24/U.S. 30—near exit 211 under I-84 in Heyburn—today at 6 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m. as crews remove the old bridge for ongoing interchange reconstruction with detours and slower speeds on I-84.  KMVT
  • Twin Falls City Council approved a resolution on Monday to start meetings with an invocation after a 4-3 vote—staff will choose balanced speakers—while council members and faith leaders shared differing views on mixing prayer and government.  Times-News
