Good morning, Twin Falls. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 30th of March.

CRIME NEWS

  • Kris Bird, 62, pleaded guilty to seven antitrust counts including bid rigging, territory allocation and five acts of wire fraud while his company supplied fuel trucks for wildfire fighters working with the U.S. Forest Service from March 2015 to March 2023 — sentencing is scheduled for June.  KMVT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Brad Little vetoed Senate Bill 1023—called the Medical Freedom Act—because he said it would take away parents' rights to keep schools safe by sending sick children home. He said the bill could make it harder for schools to stop the spread of contagious illnesses.  KMVT
  • U.S. Senators Mike Crapo and Tina Smith reintroduced a bipartisan bill — the Veterinary Workforce Act — to exempt rural veterinarians from taxable student loan repayments. Experts say the move could help Idaho ranchers who depend on vets for livestock care and essential animal certificates.  KMVT
  • Voters in Magic Valley will cast ballots on May 20 for special district positions (including a contested election in Buhl Highway District) and three school district levies in Filer, Buhl and Castleford since no state or federal races appear on this spring ballot. County Clerk Kristina Glascock said low turnout is expected and Twin Falls residents and those on its east side may opt out.  Times-News
  • The Idaho Air National Guard sent more than 300 airmen from the 124th Fighter Wing to Southwest Asia on Saturday, March 29th—supporting combat and peacekeeping operations in the U.S. Central Command’s area of responsibility—and the 180-day mission will continue into the future.  KMVT
