- ➤ The Southern Idaho Home and Garden Show returns this weekend at the CSI Expo Center with 149 vendors offering special deals on windows, siding, flooring and landscaping. Today, the HGTV Boise Boys will host a Valentine’s breakfast at 8 a.m. and present DIY projects on both days. KMVT
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A new traffic signal is active at the fatal Jerome intersection as officials monitor red-light runners, and drivers are expected to adjust quickly + maintain safety. Times-News
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Magic Mountain Ski Area near Twin Falls remains closed due to a lack of snow; owner Gary Miller said the mountain—staff and supplies are ready to open if a snowstorm brings a foot of snow soon, easing pressures on local workers and businesses. KEZJ
- ➤ Buhl rancher John Noh sheared 2,800 sheep with a six-person crew from Uruguay in three days to prepare his flock for lambing season. The wool will ship to Pendleton Wool Mills to be made into blankets and shirts. KMVT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Harrison Elementary teacher Mark Mitchell will have two photos shown on the USS Idaho after his images of Perrine Bridge with the 9/11 Memorial flag and Little City of Rocks won a Navy contest. The Virginia-class submarine will commission in Connecticut in April so his work travels with it. KMVT
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Idaho tax filing changes are coming as Governor Brad Little signed House Bill 559 early this week. The law lowers the tax rate to 5.3% and adds deductions for seniors, car loan interest, tips, and overtime while some refunds may be delayed. KMVT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting tomorrow, Feb. 15, SNAP recipients cannot use benefits to buy candy or soda after a bill signed last April restricts such purchases; Paula Simerly (owner of Simerly’s grocery in Wendell) said the vague guidelines may cause confusion at checkout. KMVT
