COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, The Hunger Coalition in Bellevue provides free vegetables + nutritious foods to over 100 families as volunteers pack boxes for bi-weekly food pick-ups on Monday and Tuesday. The nonprofit served over 10,000 meals last year and will keep supporting local neighbors.  KMVT
  • A visitor walking the Canyon Rim Trail near the Shoshone Falls discovered a stone message on an island saying 'Marry me Jess' (and learned that Kelly Fairbanks proposed and received a yes), prompting neighbors to share congratulations.  1310 KLIX

BUSINESS NEWS

  • In the Magic Valley, new businesses are set to open in 2026. In-N-Out is under construction for a late summer or fall debut, Raising Cane's will launch near the end of January + a new rec center near the airport, Panera Bread and Pizzeria Antico are also in progress.  1310 KLIX

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sixth graders at Kimberly Middle School are expanding their annual fundraiser to help WHO lives provide clean water for two villages. The fundraiser begins Feb. 2 and runs until Feb. 13, and students are encouraged to donate $5 in class.  KMVT
  • At Hansen High School, students in a forensic science class are investigating the missing husky mascot using fingerprint and DNA analysis (the class has now opened to underclassmen), offering a hands-on chance to explore criminal justice and science.  KMVT
  • College of Southern Idaho held a ribbon cutting at its new transportation center today in Twin Falls. President Dean Fisher said he loves it when a plan comes together, echoing a classic TV line.  Times-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Bureau of Land Management Burley Field Office announced that motorized travel in South Hills has been closed since Jan. 16 to protect wildlife habitat (a measure to preserve local nature) south of Twin Falls.  Times-News
  • A BBC report warns AI data centers in Idaho’s arid southcentral region will draw extra filtered water (each search using a spoonful), heightening sustainability concerns for local supplies today.  KEZJ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho lawmakers approved a resolution that calls for a yearlong celebration marking the nation’s 250th anniversary, including a goal of 250,000 acts of service and tree planting (with trees to be harvested on the 300th anniversary) statewide.  KMVT
